Introduction to the Common Spatial Information Initiative (CS2i)

Wayne Patterson | Senior Project Manager CS2i, Department of Lands (NSW)

Despite the achievements of the NSW spatial Information community, several challenges need addressing which include improving the discoverability of, access to, and coordination of spatial data beyond individual agencies and organisations.

A prime enabler for the development and continued improvement of the NSW SDI is Governance. Governance can be thought of as an enabling framework for collaboration between multiple stakeholders that connects the people, technology and geospatial resources in an SDI.

The Common Spatial Information Initiative or CS2i is a cross agency service that will provide common e-Business functions to access spatial information and services. A key objective of CS2i is the establishment of a Governance framework and arrangements which will assist interactions between key agencies and help breakdown SI silos. This presentation will provide information on CS2i, the implementation of an open & transparent Governance Framework, key priorities and initiatives, achievements to date and lessons learnt along the way.
